News: Weekend FT - Fair Pint campaigner explains the reality of owning a pub

"Who has not dreamed of owning a pub? The reality, however, can be much tougher".

The difficulties facing pubco tenants are exemplified by an article in this weekend's Financial Times, looking at Fair Pint campaigner Mark Dodds' experience of running tied pub The Sun and Doves in South London.

Under the headline 'Reality of pulling a pint leaves bad taste in the mouth', Mark explains the daily reality of managing his business, and how his pubco tenancy effectively penalises successful tenants - with rents based on valuations, those who run a good business and personally invest in developing premises face higher costs, while the pubcos fail to pass on discounts secured from brewers.
